AMBULANCE EMERGENCY ASSISTANT COURSE REGISTERED WITH HPCSA
1. DURATION
• 3 Months full time (470 hours)
2. HPCSA ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
• A pass grade and/or top 12 ranking for the AEA entrance exam
• Standard 10 (grade 12) educational level or equivalent
• BAA certificate
• HPCSA Registration Certificate and copy of current HPCSA card
• A log book or written proof of 1000 hours and 6 months or more practical road work
EXAMINATIONS
3. ENTRY – MIDTERM EXAMINATION:
• Compulsory pass in Intermediate Life Support CPR on an adult , child and infant with and without equipment
• 90% attendance of the theoretical phase
4. ENTRY - FINAL EXAMINATION
• The candidate must have a 100% practical attendance
• The candidates workbook must be completed- (all crucial areas must be completed fully)
• The candidate must pass Intermediate CPR on an adult, child and infant with and without equipment
• Two theoretical papers are to be written (pass mark 50%)
• 15 minute oral examination (pass mark 50%)
• Practical skills test (pass mark 75%)
• Patient simulation (pass mark 50%)
If a candidate fails (any part) of the examination he is entitled to undertake a supplementary examination consisting of all components.
5. CUM LAUDE CERTIFICATE
• A CUM LAUDE certificate could be issued when a candidate attains 75% or more for the course.
5. REGISTRATION WITH THE HEALTH PROFESSIONS COUNCIL OF SOUTH AFRICA (HPCSA)
• After successful completion of the AEA course, the candidate is required to register with the HPCSA, in order to practice, as a an AEA

• Failure to attend course – no refund
• Foreign Students (outside the Republic of South Africa) to add 20% to the above fees
• Fees exclude accommodation and meals

• Lunch can be provided at an extra cost of R50.00 per meal
