BASIC AMBULANCE ASSISTANT COURSE (BAA) REGISTERED WITH HPCSA

1. DURATION

• 5 weeks and examination full time (200 hours)

2. HPCSA ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

• 18 years of age or older
• Standard 10 (Grade 12) educational level or equivalent
 

3. RECOMMENDATIONS:

• Standard 10 (Grade 12) educational level or equivalent with biology
• Code 8 or 10 Drivers Licence
• Valid/current Public Driving Permit

 

4. FINAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Ninety percent (90%) class attendance
• Pass adult, child and infant CPR
• Two hour written examination paper (pass mark 50%)
• 15 minute oral examination (pass mark 50%)
• Practical skills test (pass mark 75%)
• Patient simulation (pass mark 50%)




 

If a candidate fails one component of the final examination, they may be allowed to repeat that component.

If a candidate fails two components, they will have to repeat all the components for the final examination again. If a candidate fails the examinations again, they will have to repeat the entire BAA course.

5. REGISTRATION WITH THE HEALTH PROFESSIONS COUNCIL OF SOUTH
AFRICA (HPCSA)

After successful completion of the BAA, the candidate is required to register with
the HPCSA, in order to practice as a BAA.
 

6. PRESCRIBED TEXT BOOK:

Emergency care and transportation of the Sick and Injured 9th Edition American
College of Orthopedic Surgeons.

PLEASE NOTE:
• Should there not be a minimum of 8 students confirmed one month prior to the starting date, the course will be cancelled and students carried over to the next course.
• To book oneself on the course R6500.00 is required as a deposit.
• Should the balance of fees not be received on the FIRST DAY of the course, another candidate will fill your place on the BAA course.
• All courses are conducted in English.
• Cancellation more than one month prior to starting date of course – 75% refund.
• Cancellation less than one month prior to starting date of course – no refund.
• Failure to attend course – no refund
• Foreign Students (outside the Republic of South Africa) to add 20% to the above fees
• Fees exclude accommodation and meals
• Fees subject to change without notice
• Lunch can be provided at an extra cost of R50.00 per meal.
